Abstract:
The Content-Based Approach To Internet Literacy
-
This paper presents a model for incorporating "internet literacy" into
-
academic content courses at the university level. The model seeks to free
the well-established content-based approach to second language learning
from its language learning roots and transform it into an interdisciplinary
approach to advance computer literacy in all fields.
- The principle loom used to weave internet skills into the curriculum of any
-
course, political science, art history, philosophy etc., is the World Wide
Web. The content-based approach to internet literacy uses a combination of
step-by-step computing instructions and the learning of discrete computing
applications in order to complete academic projects. This paper presents
the theoretical model, discusses how to construct a course to achieve
internet literacy, and provides examples of relevant task-based activities
designed to move students toward mastery of the six essential internet
skills identified in the paper.
