I was asked to share information on the background of the treasury department. The treasury department dates back to when Alexander Hamilton took office in 1789. The treasury department has been a strong economic force in the United States. It serves many functions such as; IRS, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, U.S. Mint, Secret Service.

I was sworn in as the 70th Secretary of Treasury on Jan. 10, 1995. Prior to being the Secretary of Treasury, I served as President Clinton's assistant for Economic Policy in 1993. As Clinton's assistant I directed the activities of the National Economic Council, overseeing domestic and international economic policy, making policy recommendations to the President, and monitoring the implemention of the President's economic goals.

I have previously worked 26 years for Goldman Sachs & Co. doing investment banking. I have held positions as a board of director for the New York Stock Exchange, the New York Futures Exchange, and the Harvard Management Company, and the Center for National Policy.

I look forward to working with congress on passing the IMF and Fast Track Bills.
